Kaanapali Coffee Plantation Tour Facilities
This project was conceived in the early days of Maui’s transition away from sugar cane cultivation. Our client, a local agricultural company, had begun planting coffee trees on former sugar cane lands and sought the opportunity to showcase their efforts with a new agri-tourism facility situated in the midst of the a functional coffee plantation.
The main structure of a neo-historic design was planned as a gathering place, a viewing platform housing educational displays of the historical as well as scientific aspects of its propagation and cultivation. Actual agricultural processes would be performed in the outbuildings where visitors could watch and learn. Multiple varieties of coffee would be planted in the areas surrounding the main pavilion, allowing visitors a unique opportunity to “wander the fields.”
